Hinds said that Ansa McAl, as a corporate sponsor, is forever looking to expand its horizons and it is because of this that the Smalta brand was chosen as the banner for this event; for the beverage is used by consumers of all ages and from all walks of life because of its nutritional content.
She applauded the Guyana Cycling Federation’s outreach and lauded their efforts which she sees as encouragement for further sponsoring of the federation’s events.
Allen expressed his gratitude on behalf of the GCF and at the same time revealed that the fundraising initiative was prompted by the fact that two of the four cyclists who were selected to represent Guyana at the Central American and Caribbean Games were unable to travel to Puerto Rico to compete due to a lack of funds.
He stated that the GCF wishes to attend the Caribbean Youth Championships in Aruba on August 7 and 8, the Caribbean Elite Championships that will be held in Guadeloupe in October and last but not least the Commonwealth Games which are set for Delhi, India in October and as such other efforts, including an event in August, will be made to raise the amount required to attend these events.
Sunday’s activities start at 11:00 h and eight races will be contested in the Senior, Junior, Veterans, Mountain Bike and BMX categories to be run off at the National Park circuit, in conjunction with a 12-team domino competition and a take-away lunch which will be held on the lawns of the Malteenoes Sports Club.
