GFW CEO, Sonia Noel said in a recent release that the  awareness campaign has already started with a massive photo shoot last weekend, which featured  models in pink swimsuits  and evening wear  parading in the Bourda Market area, attracting inquisitive crowds who stopped to ask:  “Why the colour pink?”

Noel said there will be workshops, walks, and TV programmes, and every designer in GFW will design a piece with the colour scheme.

“Every year,” she said, “we try to send a positive message through fashion; it is perfect for breast cancer, and the ministry has endorsed this event. Our industry is mainly women, and in the process, they will be educated and able to spread the word. We will have workshops [and]  walks,  and we  are planning to make it countrywide.”

In the meantime, with the Guyana Model Search Stylist Designers portfolio just concluded, plans for the fourth Guyana Fashion Weekend are going full steam ahead with auditions for designers started yesterday and continuing today.

Noel said that models of all sizes are invited to the auditions, and everyone needs to bring a photograph. Special things to be taken into consideration are female models needing to wear heels and designers needing to bring their portfolio and a complete outfit.

A fashion show is scheduled for both events, and will feature Noel, Olympia Small, Meleesa Payne, Christopher Goodridge and other designers that are part of GFW 2010.

GFW spokeswoman, American actress, Anna Maria Horsford will be present.

The official launch will be on Wednesday, July 21 at Duke Lodge.

A ‘Year for Expansion’ for the local fashion industry will be launched in Toronto on   July 28 at the Trane Stud964 Bathurst St., Toronto, Canada, and on August 6, local fashion will be displayed at the Renaissance Fine Art Gallery in New York.

Auditions continue today from 14:00 – 17:00h at the Water Chris Hotel for designers and models.
