At Berbice Assizes…

Jury sworn for stepson murder case retrial
THE retrial of Alfred Campbell called Sobers, who is indicted for the murder of his stepson, Travis Cleon Scott alias ‘Black Boy’, will start on Monday at the Berbice Assizes.
But a mixed jury was sworn before Justice Brassington Reynolds yesterday,
when an adjournment was granted to allow State appointed Defence Counsel Charrandas Persaud to be properly briefed.
Campbell was sentenced to death, on March 3, 2008, for the unlawful killing but won his appeal against the conviction, which was set aside by the Appellate Court.
The victim was shot while asleep in his Liverpool, Corentyne home, between January 22 and 23, 2004.
