Resources being mobilised to restore structures at Mabura

The Ministry of Public Works and Communications is working to restore the two creek crossings at 40 Miles and 42 Miles, Mabura, Region Ten, which partially collapsed Monday.
Minister of Transport and Hydraulics, Robeson Benn, has stated that the eight HDPE pipes (36 inches in diameter and of 40- foot length) have departed Georgetown for Mabura.

He noted that the Ministry is working towards completing works by today, so that traffic can resume flowing as normal tomorrow. The Ministry’s engineer, Naeem Mohamed, who is responsible for the operations, stated that the contractor is currently expediting preliminary works which involve stock piling materials.
The structures were damaged on Monday because of heavy overnight rainfall which caused flash flooding in the creeks.
Minister Benn stated that there are also reports of water being extremely high in the Demerara River in locations such as Three Friends, Coomacka, Malali and Great Falls, owing to rainstorm events.
In addition there was overtopping in several areas, including Craig and Friendship, East Bank Demerara, and Vive-La-Force, West Bank Demerara, owing to high tide of 3.26 metres this morning.
