Container-trailer accident victim being buried today

As relatives seek more information…
FORTY-FIVE-YEAR-OLD Andel Franklin, of Lot 3694 North Ruimveldt, who was killed when a container-trailer combination hit him at the junction of Water and America Streets, last Friday, is to be buried today at Le Repentir Cemetery.

The footwear vendor, who sells in the vicinity of the Chemical Corner, near the Mahaica Car Park, also in Georgetown, was struck by the vehicles belonging to John Fernandes Limited shortly before 22:00 hours.
His distraught nurse sister, Sharon Mills told the Guyana Chronicle the family was informed that her brother died on the spot but was taken to Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) Accident and Emergency Unit, with a broken shoulder, a dislocated and hanging arm and protruding rib bones.
Family members met with management officials of the shipping company yesterday and sought clarification on how Franklin met his death but they expressed disappointment that the driver of the vehicle tandem involved did not make contact with them, although a telephone number was left, with the Police, for him.
Still crying yesterday, Mills lamented that they would really like to hear from the driver and wondered why he is not coming forward with his version of the incident.
Mills, in whose lower apartment Franklin lived, recalled that she last saw him leaving for work on Friday morning and, on Saturday morning, she received a text message about his demise.
She rushed to the hospital but learnt that he was already in the mortuary.
Mills said a post mortem examination was done on his body Monday but a source of concern is that the report merely said he suffered multiple injuries.
Franklin, the fifth of eleven siblings, is survived by his father, Rupert Franklin, four sisters and six brothers.
Viewing before his funeral will take place at his home, from 13:30h to 14:30h, followed by a thanksgiving service at Elim Pentecostal Church, Regent and Light Streets, also in the city, starting 15:00 hours.
