Two new faces in Guyana team for Regional T20

THE senior national selection panel led by chairman Claude Raphael has selected Guyana ’s 14 man squad to contest the upcoming West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional Twenty20 championships which is scheduled to commence later this month.

Hotel Tower ’s New Line Cavaliers all rounder Paul Wintz along with former national Under-19 all rounder Jonathan Foo are the lone new faces in the Ramnaresh Sarwan led line up.

Also included in the 14 man
squad is veteran all rounder Lennox Cush who recently led the United States to the Americas Cup with a solid all round performance with both bat and ball.

Cush is the perfect example of what the term free agent means, taking into consideration the numerous teams who has been lining up for his services both at home and abroad, while he is the lone bowler who has taken a hat trick in this form of the game in the Region.

He has not played cricket for Guyana at any level since returning home from the 2008 Stanford 20/20 tournament where he took the hat trick against Jamaica in the semi final, due to an injured knee.

And while he has made himself available for Regional limited overs tournament after being included in the Stanford Superstars squad, the selectors had opted to use the occasional off -spin of Royston Crandon.

His inclusion in the national team this time around would certainly be a plus, for his ability to bowl the new ball while holding his own with the bat whether at the top of the order or even in the middle.

West Indies opener Travis Dowlin, who will best be remembered for his man of the match performance in the final of the 2006 Stanford 20/20 tournament, along with his fellow West Indies teammate Narsingh Deonarine are also included in the lineup.

Unlucky not to be selected is Berbice’s right arm off- spinner Krisendat Ramoo a player who has been making a name for himself in this form of the game, along with energetic all rounder Dion Ferrier.

Wintz has always proven himself to be a worthy customer with either the bat or ball for New Line Cavaliers and certainly deserves his place in the lineup, while Foo has displayed the big game temperament ever since he was an Under-19 player.

The 14 man squad reads: Ramnaresh Sarwan, (Captain), Sewnarine Chattergoon, Christopher Barnwell, Travis Dowlin, Narsingh Deonarine, Darwin Christian, Lennox Cush, Royston Crandon, Devendra Bishoo, Esaun Crandon, Jonathan Foo, Paul Wintz, Steven Jacobs and Assad Fudadin
