Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, performing the duties of the President Wednesday evening emphasised that the Government of Guyana is greatly appreciative of the assistance rendered by the Venezuelan Government, through the Venezuelan Embassy in Guyana, to provide the opportunity for local women to receive training in various areas.

He was at the time speaking at the launch of an Art Exhibition at the Venezuelan Institute for Culture and Cooperation to commemorate the 199th Independence Anniversary of the Republic of Venezuela which was celebrated on July 5.
This event was held through a collaborative effort among the Venezuela Institute for Culture and Cooperation, the Women with Power Organisation, and the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Guyana.
Officials of the Mexican Embassy and representatives from various governmental organisations were present at the ceremony.
Prime Minister Hinds stated that the government is concerned about the role of women in the country and thus made interventions to improve their lives
The recently launched ‘Women of Worth’ aims to give women greater ability to be independent and strong, especially for their children.
He advised persons to work together in order to achieve the goals of life and congratulated the women who completed the programme and commended them for joining the organisation.

Prime Minister Hinds stated that a cooperative arrangement is always more lucrative.
The art exhibition, held under the theme, “Hands of Revolutionary Women,” consisted of art and craft, paintings, tie-dye clothing, cake decorations and floral arrangements. Seventeen different organisations, each of which branched off from the ‘Women with Power’ organization, participated in the exhibition.
The organisation was launched in May 2007, when the Venezuelan Government and Embassy felt the need to expand the Venezuelan Institute for Culture and Cooperation, which taught Spanish, by including courses for ladies, particularly single parents.
The programme aims to support the Guyana Government in its work for the betterment of families, to create groups around the country, support women in their struggle and lend a hand to the government.
After completion of the programme, it was suggested that the women branch off and form their own organisations. They were supported by the Venezuelan Embassy, and as the years went by, more courses were added to the programme.
The programme reaches as far as Blairmont, Diamond and recently, Hague.
Venezuelan Ambassador, Dario Morandy, stated the women have spent a lot of time at the institute and they proudly showcased their work.
He noted that the programme is aimed to benefit Guyanese and it goes beyond the government level.
Morandy noted that after completion of the programme, persons will receive remuneration.

Subsequently, the women can form organisations of their own and carry out social work, which will be productive, Morandy said.
The Embassy has provided the necessary materials for the women to start their own organisations.
