BERBICE Police are investigating the murder of an 83-year-old woman, whose motionless body was found with injuries to the head at her Brighton, Corentyne, home.
The pensioner, who had two identification (ID) cards with the names Stella Arjune and Sookree Sooklall, was discovered dead by a relative who had gone to visit her, shortly after 10:00 h Tuesday, in the wooden cottage where she lived alone.
Her other relatives reside overseas but a grandson occupies another house aback hers.
It is believed that whoever committed the brutal crime gained entry to the building through a window and bludgeoned the victim.
A bloodstained piece of wood was on the floor not far from the bed on which the corpse lay and is suspected to be the weapon used to inflict the fatal injuries.
A pillow with blood on it was covering the face of the deceased and her two bedrooms had been ransacked.
The body of the octogenarian is at the mortuary in Skeldon Hospital, Corentyne compound, awaiting a post mortem examination.
