Sixth GBBC/GABA ProAm Friday Night Fights..
PAULINE London is set to face Debbie Tyson over four rounds when the sixth round of action in the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC)/Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) ProAm Friday Night Fights (FNF) punches off on the July 30 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH). At the signing of their contracts yesterday in the boardroom of Abdool and Abdool Insurance Brokers’ Avenue of the Republic office, London said she will be looking for a third-round knockout.
“I am looking for a third-round knockout. For far too long, I wanted Debbie Tyson to feel these hands, and, being given the opportunity now, I intend to have her feel it from the first bell, wherein I will be looking to cuff her on her mouth first.
“It will be a bloodied night for Tyson as she is no match for me. Shelly ‘The Boom’ Gibson felt these hands and buckled and she (Tyson) is not as strong as Gibson.
“In fact, all the fighters she defeated before were mis-matches for her. She now reach her real match in Pauline London and I will beat her up badly,” bragged London.
She continued: “I don’t know much about her, except that she talks a lot and for her talks she will be getting a lot of punches on her mouth from me from the first bell. She has no punch for me and that’s all that matters.
“I will teach her a lesson she will never forget in her entire boxing career. I will beat her bad. So bad, that she will enter the ring one way and leave another, bloodied and bruised beyond recognition.”
In her response, Tyson who arrived late for the signing ceremony said all Pauline can do is bluff her way with a lot of talks.
“Everyone knows I am the big bad Debbie Tyson who have been defeating girls all the time, both in the ring and n the road too and to some extent, boys on the road as well. While I do respect her talks, as everyone has the right to say what they wish to say at a time like this, at the end of the day, she will be the loser.
She is right about one thing. I am not ‘The Boom’, I am Debbie Tyson, a fighter who is faster than her and speed is power, so she better beware of what she is saying, as she has another thing coming.”
So confident was Tyson, that she offered to put her purse on the line against London who refused to accept that part of the challenge, saying she is a fighter and not a gambler.
There will be three other professional fights on the card, with Shawn Pile who was scheduled to fight Miguel Antoine for the World Boxing Council (WBC) CABOFE junior welterweight title last Saturday, facing Mark Austin.
A confident Pile who has a ring record of 8-2, said he plans to use this fight as a warm-up for his contest with Antoine which will now take place on August 29 in Barbados, as Austin possesses the same technique.
“I am confident I will defeat him even though he is a good fighter and one who is coming off a successful debut and I hope he puts up a good showing on the July 30, as I intend to use this fight as a warm-up, as he possess the same technique as Antoine.”
Austin has vowed not to be any stepping-stone to any boxer on the local scene, saying that he has been training towards becoming a champion and not a stepping-stone in anyone’s career.
“After I recorded my first victory over Cecil Smith, I hit the gym the very next day as my aim is to become a champion in this sport. He is talking about using this fight as a warm-up, well he is definitely looking in the wrong direction, as I don’t intend to be no stepping-stone for any boxer.”
When asked comment on his two cancelled appointments with Clive Atwell, Austin said in life there are hiccups and this happens to be one of them, but they will meet as he is looking forward to facing him wherein he can show to the Guyanese public, his victories at the amateur level were no flukes.
Troy Lewis makes a return to the squared circle after a one-month ban following his after-bout brawl with national welterweight champion Iwan Azore and he will be going up against Edmond De Clou, while a rematch with Azore has been scheduled for next month’s FNF.
The final bout on the card pits Anthony Augustine against a ring-rusty Kurt Best in a heavyweight battle and the former who suffered his first defeat to national heavyweight champion Mitchell Rogers before rebounding to defeat Leon ‘The Lion’ Gilkes, is looking forward to coming away victorious over Best.
Whatever the outcome of the other fights, boxing fans will surely throng the venue to see whether or not Pauline London can knockout Debbie Tyson in three rounds or suffer at the hands of her opponent, one who has been defeating both boys and girls in and out of the ring.
