Police in ‘relentless’ pursuit of colleague’s murderer

THE Force yesterday promised to relentlessly pursue the person or persons responsible for the shooting to death of one of its ranks, and is calling on members of the public who may have pertinent information to help arrest them.
Police Constable 20740 Vickram Singh of the Tactical Services Unit, the police said in a release yesterday, was on duty at the entrance of the Joint Services Housing Scheme in suburban Lamaha Springs when he was shot and killed while trying to foil an armed robbery in the vicinity of his post.
According to information at hand, the rank saw what was about to happen, and was in the process of responding when he was shot by the assailant who then ran away.
A police patrol that was in the vicinity, the release said, responded and gave chase in the direction where the suspect was believed to have gone. Though several houses in the area were searched, the patrol was unsuccessful in locating him.
Constable Singh was rushed to the Davis Memorial Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical treatment.
His service firearm and communications set were found to be intact.
Now the police are asking members of the public who may have information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrator or perpetrators to contact them on telephone numbers 225-6411, 225-2227, 225-6941, 227-1149, 226-7065, 911 or the nearest police station.
All information, they say, will be treated with the strictest of  confidence.
