Hit-and-run victim still listed as critical

ONE OF two persons who were struck down by a speeding car that drove away from the scene on Norton Street here in the city on Friday night is listed as critical at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
According to reports, Seon Barker, a 19-year-old mason of Garnett Street, Kitty, and his cousin, Luther James were walking along Norton Street at about 19:30h when they were struck down from behind by a silver-grey motor car, which sped away from the scene.
James said when he regained consciousness, he was lying in the grass near the roadway and saw Barker panting for breath.
Soon after, he said, public-spirited citizens took them both to the GPH.
He said Barker, who was hurled upon impact into the air and landed several feet away, kept slipping in and out of consciousness regularly, as he had received head and other injuries about the body.
James, who said he was pitched into the grass not far from his cousin, said that soon after regaining consciousness, he received a call on his cellular phone from a relative, whom he told what had happened and was later informed that a mirror from the hit-and-run car was on the roadway but was taken to the police by a passerby, who had witnessed the accident.
Up to press time, Seon Barker was still a patient at the GPH, while James, his cousin, was treated and discharged.
