Judge reserves decision on certiorari proceedings
JUSTICE Roxanne George on Friday reserved her decision after presiding over certiorari proceedings involving Assistant Commissioner of Police Seelall Persaud, Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson and added respondent, Barry Dataram.
Persaud had asked the magistrate to issue a Bench warrant for the arrest of Dataram in relation to a United States (U.S.) extradition request surrounding drug charges.
But, after the magistrate refused, Persaud approached the High Court for certiorari and mandamus orders, to compel the magistrate to reverse her ruling and Dataram successfully applied to be joined as an added respondent.
Dataram was represented by Mr. Glenn Hanoman and Mr. Vic Puran while Mr. Anil Nandlall appeared for Persaud and Deputy Solicitor General, Mr. Nareshwar Harnanan for the magistrate.
However, the judge, who is leaving the country on Tuesday, to return August 10, told the lawyers that notices will be sent them about the date of resumption.
