Missing exhibits stall headless body murder case, again

At  Berbice Assizes…
JUSTICE Brassington Reynolds has adjourned, until Tuesday, the headless body murder case, to allow two Prosecution witnesses to locate exhibits.
It was the second adjournment granted, since June 16, at the request of State Prosecutor Dionne Mc Cammon, to allow the first of the two witnesses, Police Detective Sergeant Richard Frank, to find US$344, six wrist watches and a yellow metal chain that were in a transparent plastic bag.
Frank, on that day, had testified of being taken, by the accused, Danny Busjit, to his mother’s residence, where those things were unearthed from a spot behind the house, taken to Mibicuri Police Station, Black Bush Polder and lodged with the Subordinate Officer-in-Charge.
However, on the resumption Wednesday, another postponement was allowed, after ex-detective Sheldon Nathaniel was unable to retrieve what he recovered, after photographing the remains of the victim, American citizen Kalidas Surujnarine, 74.
The former policeman had said, earlier, that, on November 27, 2005, the headless body was discovered in a chain fenced yard at Mibicuri.
The witness said a pair of dentures was three feet South of the corpse, along with black long pants and black trunks.
Nathaniel said, too, that a pair of leather sandals, a red torchlight and an eagle shaped gold pendant was near an outside bathroom, on the eastern side of the yard, which also had two gates facing North and South.
The witness recalled putting all the things in separate bags with his initials and lodging them with the Station Sergeant.
Nathaniel said, the following day, he returned to the scene and discovered what appeared to be a human skull, about 60 yards away from where the body without it had been.
He said after taking photographs of the articles and the body, the pictures were printed and nine were tendered and marked exhibits B 1 to 9.
Cross-examination by Defence Counsel Mursalene Bacchus and Kim Kyte-John was deferred, pending retrieval of the missing exhibits.   Top of Form

The indictment against Busjit said he unlawfully killed Surujnarine before the
victim’s body, minus the head, was found in his Mibicuri yard.
