THE Guyana Society for the Prevention to Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA) plans to embark on a comprehensive public awareness and education campaign in a move to promote animal welfare in Guyana. This was disclosed by Mr. Oliver Insanally, President of the GSPCA during the delivery of the president’s report at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the society which was held on June 25, 2010 at the Georgetown Club.
Reflecting on the past year, which was deemed by Mr Insanally as being successful, the President said that the Society continued to achieve its objective through relentless efforts to enhance and uphold animal well being.
Among the significant activities of the GSPCA which were conducted during the reporting period are general treatment and care, 339 spays and 119 neuters on cats and dogs, administering of 6, 513 vaccinations, re-homing 590 cats and dogs and euthanasia when found to be extremely necessary.
As provided for in the constitution of the GSPCA, this AGM provided for the dissolution of the existing executive and election of the new one. Accordingly, the new executive that was elected for the period July 2010 – June 2011 comprises the following:

Upon resuming the presidency of the Society, Mr Insanally expressed gratitude to the multitude of donors who contributed towards the sustainability of the society and its work during the previous years. He also emphasised the need for members of the society to become increasingly active in furthering the work and called for more volunteers to join the GSPCA in its mission to prevent cruelty to animals.
The GSPCA’s executive used the opportunity to present a plaque to Mr Kumar Singh and Mrs Shalini Singh in appreciation of their efforts to Region Number Three with respect to the re-homing abandoned animals and the sponsoring of spays and neutering of cats and dogs to prevent them from reproducing exponentially.
