I made the remark to a fellow church member that much has changed for the better since the PPP/C government came to office. This statement did not go down well with my brother in Christ who is a devout PNCR supporter and apologist. In his estimation things have gotten worse and there has been lots of debate in the media and elsewhere on this topic. The point is Guyana would have grown progressively better or worse depending on whose eyes are viewing the situation. In the case in point I reminded him of the days when I came to church either on foot or on a derelict pedal cycle that had all the scars of a world war veteran and to boot I had to chain it on to the church’s fence for fear of losing it. Mark you I did lose that bicycle eventually. Now I see rows of cars lined on the roadway during services at my church to the point where the pastor has to harangue his parishioners for a decent place to park his car. Is this backwardness or progress I would ask?
I can recall in the not so distant past when our largest department store then boasted a few dried coconuts and a coal pot with a slogan “alternative energy” these were the days the good old days of the PNC. So those apologists out there who suffer from selective amnesia or are just playing the fool, we have not fallen on our brains here in Guyana yet and the government cannot change.
