CORPORAL Bertrand Edwards of the Guyana Police Force, struck down by a motor vehicle on Mandela Avenue a fortnight ago, yesterday succumbed to his injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
Edwards who was attached to the Supreme Court Police Outpost on Avenue of the Republic, Georgetown, was driving his motor cycle along the public way on June 8, when, around 20:10 hrs he was struck down by a motor car.
He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by public spirited persons, suffering life threatening injuries to his legs and other parts of the body and subsequently had a leg amputation.
A few days later, his condition deteriorated and he died on June 23.
Cpl Edwards is survived by his wife Donna and three children.
Meanwhile, Ivor Tells, 68 years of Huntley, Mahaicony, ECD, died yesterday at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was hospitalized following an accident last Sunday at Airy Hall, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara.
A police report said Tells was walking along the roadway when he was struck down by a motor vehicle whose driver had swerved from a pedal cyclist.
Police investigations into both matters are continuing and post mortem examinations are expected to be performed on Friday.
