THE AFC’s press conference on Monday last was nothing more than a public relations stunt.
At the press conference Trotman, Ramjattan and Sheila Holder (one gets the feeling she is the peacemaker) sought to present a unified AFC that is strong as ever before. However they failed to realize that they were in front of the Guyanese public and it is not only what they said that was observed but their entire deportment.
From a personal standpoint I am of the view that a conscientious effort was being made to present this unified front that was nonexistent. It was evident that all was not well in the AFC camp. And to make matters worse they sought to deflect their internal rupture by labelling the Government as undemocratic among other things.
The point is that it appears Trotman wants the leadership post of the AFC permanently, relegating on the rotation policy that the party was built on. Ramjattan wants the rotation policy to be adhered to. The meeting with Messrs. Henry and Murray would have vindicated Trotman’s wishes. Therefore one can safely say that Monday’s hastily arranged press conference was at best a “complete rotation” on Trotman’s part and at worse a public relations stunt.
