Funeral Monday for teen killed in motorcycle crash

PREPARATIONS were underway yesterday for the funeral of 17-year-old Mike Anthony Beepat, who was killed in a Tuesday night accident on Craig Public Road, East Bank Demerara.
He, of Lot 42 Soesdyke and his 15-year-old cousin, Shivnarine Persaud, were on a CBR motorcycle that he was riding when it collided headlong with a pick-up.
Aunt of the deceased, Radica Narine said he was not wearing a helmet nor was he a licensed rider.
She said he was to secure a licence in two weeks time.
His grief stricken mother, Patsy Beepat told the Guyana Chronicle, they are preparing to bury her only son on Monday, after a two-part Christian/Hindu religious service at the family home.
Lamenting on his too short life, she said her son killed himself but he was loved throughout the community where he lived and was a good boy, who never drank alcohol nor smoked.
The grieving mother said she had been grooming the teenager to, one day, take over the running of the family business in Soesdyke, where he was already taking charge.
She said the family had made plans to refurbish a house they own and that her son, a carpenter and mason, was excited to start the project.
“Now I have to put him in a wooden casket,” she moaned.
The last joyous occasion the mother shared with her son was at her birthday party last Sunday.
“I danced for my son and he was happy. He was always so close to me,” she said.
Despite her intense anguish, she offered a few words of advice to anyone thinking about venturing on a motorcycle.
“Tell them don’t ride motorcycles. They are dangerous,” she said.
A relative said the dead teen’s father, Deonarine Beepat has been unable to contain his grief since the accident.
