Two more husbands remanded in domestic violence cases

TWO more men were remanded to prison yesterday in domestic violence cases before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.

One of the prisoners, George Holder, 52, of Lot 266 West Ruimveldt, pleaded not guilty to unlawfully assaulting his wife, Gillian Holder, so as to cause her actual bodily harm on June 14.

The defendant claimed he only took away a knife that the virtual complainant was brandishing at him.

But the woman said her spouse has always been abusive to her and that day, when they had an argument, he hit and then locked her up in the house to prevent her from going to her mother.

She had to jump through a window to get to the Police Station. The magistrate asked whether the defendant would usually behave in that manner when he smokes.

However, before his wife could answer, Holder blurted out: “I’m a Rasta man. I must have to burn my weed.” The case was postponed pending a probation report on June 22.

The other prisoner on remand, Franklin Bretford, 31, of Lot 74 Railway Line, Kitty, also in Georgetown, denied using threatening language to his reputed wife, Angela Ramsammy, causing a breach of the peace on June 15.

The defendant said he had a little problem with the virtual complainant at home and admitted that he used indecent language.

The woman, though, said he is in the habit of abusing her and threatened to slaughter her.

She said she had enough of the abuse and wants to get out of the relationship.
Bretford will remain incarcerated through June 25.
