Beautifying University of Guyana

A PROJECT to beautify the environment of the University of Guyana has been launched under the patronage of Pamela Bourne, wife of the institution’s recently installed Chancellor, Dr Compton Bourne, President of the Caribbean Development Bank.
The ‘UG Environmental Enhancement Project’ is an idea of Mrs. Bourne who heads a broad-based 13-member committee currently engaged with a ‘donate-a-tree’ appeal for the Turkeyen-located campus.

A media statement released by the UG’s Office of Resource Mobilisation and Planning, said the project ‘envisions the enhancement of the physical environment of the campus through landscaping with carefully selected trees, shrubs and other appropriate planting materials’.
The committee includes technical and other officials of the UG; and also the Guyana Forestry Commission and the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO). The expectation is to complete the project by September this year.
Patron Bourne said that popular involvement in the beautification project could be “the beginning, or the continuation, of a beneficial relationship with the still young University of Guyana.
Members of the public interested to be a part of the project with donation of a tree, may call: Dr Marlene Cox (tel.222-4932) and Ms Yvonne Stephenson (tel.226-7073).
