SIPPION Benjamin, 42, of Lot 237 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was remanded to prison yesterday on a charge of unlawfully assaulting a schoolgirl.
Before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, he pleaded not guilty to the assault to cause actual bodily harm on June 7.
Benjamin claimed he and a friend were in a shop when the virtual complainant passed and the other man asked her what she has in her bag for him but she did not reply.
The defendant said the student cursed and attacked him with a piece of wood and he held her hands to make her stop but denied hitting her.
However, the girl’s mother, who said her daughter could not be present because she was sitting an examination, related that the shopkeeper called to tell her that the defendant had slapped her child.
The woman said her daughter had reported that the defendant asked her for her phone number and, because she responded in a rude manner, he slapped her.
Benjamin has to be back in Court on June 18.
