CHELSEA Edghill was nothing short of phenomenal as she not only successfully defended her 13 years-and-under title but she also laid a dominant claim on the 15 years-and-under title and the vacant 18 years-and-under title. She did not relinquish a single set to Jamaali Holder in the finals of the 13 years and under category and in so doing clinched the match in three sets with final scores being 11-7, 11-5 and 11-7.
Akeicia Nedd was the next to fall victim to the Caribbean champion in the 13 years and under category as she stood in the precarious position between Edghill and the 15 years and under title. Edghill also made quick work of Nedd as she managed to pull off another three-set victory to nullify her challenger’s efforts. At the end of that encounter the scorecard read 11-8, 11-8, 11-7.
She completed her hat-trick in the same fashion as she sank Adeille Rosheuvel in three sets – 12-10, 11-5, 11-6 – to claim the 18 years and under title.
The results of the other matches played over the weekend are as follows:
Nevaeh Clarkson won two titles in the U-8 and U-10 categories, beating Shawana Douglas 11-3, 10-12, 11-13 in the U-8 and Sanasha Corlette and Douglas in a round robin playoff to snatch the U-10 title.
In the Under-10 Boys’ Final, Jeremy Singh, fought his way to an 11-8, 8-11, 12-10 and 11-7 victory over Amit Mookram. Joseph Johnson defeated Elishaba Johnson 11-9, 6-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-9 in the 13 years and under Boys’ final.
Sachin Panday got the better of Joseph Johnson 11-6, 11-5, 11-4 in the 15 years and under final. Last year’s 18 years and under champion Nigel Bryan, successfully defended his title against Denzil Hopkinson winning the four-setter 11-6, 7-11, 11-4, and 11-9.
The Adielle Rosheuvel/Akeicia Nedd team defeated Chelsea Edghill and Jamaali Homer 11-0, 11-5 and 13-11 in the girls’ doubles final.
