We promise! We deliver!

– Minister Manickchand tells residents at Tuschen meeting
MINISTER of Human Services and Social Security, Ms. Priya Manickchand, said the PPP/C Government has delivered on its promises that it has made to protect vulnerable groups in the society, especially women and children,
with the passage of several landmark pieces of legislation, including the Sexual Offences Bill, which the President assented to one week ago.
Manickchand, who herself delivered a baby girl a few weeks ago, was speaking yesterday at the closing meeting of the Region Three Cabinet Outreach, during which members of the Cabinet met and interacted with residents of villages along the West Coast of Demerara and the East Bank of Essequibo.
“We have delivered on our promises…,” the Minister declared, noting that tomorrow, for instance, the Government will be launching a multi-million-dollar micro-credit scheme to help women take care of their families through access to credit.  She also pointed out that every month, 40,000 persons receive old age pensions.
“We are doing all these things because we believe that we have a duty to serve you,” she said.
Manickchand then told the crowd that they have a duty to ensure that they choose the people who can bring these services to them.
