THE United States Southern Command (U.S. SOUTH COM) yesterday gifted the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) 10 ‘Ford 350’ trucks. U.S. SOUTH COM Commander, General Douglas Fraser handed over the vehicles to GDF Chief-of-Staff, Commodore Gary Best, at Base Camp Ayanganna, Thomas Lands, Georgetown.
The donation is part of the U.S. Army’s programme to train and equip its partner nations in combating terrorism and Best expressed appreciation for the timely gesture.
He said the vehicles would be utilised mostly in special operations.
Prior to the handing over, the two top soldiers met and discussed several issues relating to the existing bilateral relationship and cooperation between their forces.
Best praised the professionalism and dedication of the U.S. forces which have been engaging and providing Guyana with much needed expertise in various fields.
He also emphasised the need for the security cooperation, through the office of the Military Liaison Officer, to continue.
