June Criminal Sessions open with ceremonial parade

JUSTICE  William Ramlal,  one of the two judges assigned  to  preside at the June Criminal Sessions at  the Demerara Assizes, yesterday inspected a  guard of honour and later took the salute during a march past at a ceremonial parade to mark the opening of the sessions. The other judge assigned to the sessions was Justice Roxanne George who had taken the salute at the January Sessions, and had also received the Jail Delivery at the end of those sessions.
It will be recalled that Justice George frowned at the length of time prisoners were awaiting trial after being committed.
As a consequence , she directed that those who had been awaiting trial for a very long time be brought to Court to explain their hardships. Many left comforted at the news that efforts will be made to provide them with  speedy trials.
