THE preliminary inquiry (PI) into the carnal knowledge charge against Justice for All Party (JPA) Leader Chandra Narine Sharma, will commence on June 16.
This was announced yesterday when Sharma made another appearance before Magistrate Fazil Azeez, being represented by attorney-at-law Mr. Vic Puran.
Last April 20, Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson had refused Sharma bail on a charge that said, between July 23, 2003 and July 23, 2004, he had carnal knowledge of a girl under seven years of age.
But the remanded prisoner was granted pre-trial freedom, on $2M surety, the following day, in another Magistrate’s Court.
Sharma appeared in Court, again, on April 26 and a new charge of obstructing the course of justice was read to him by Magistrate Robertson.
Particulars of that offence said it was committed on April 15, when he removed two of the girls at the centre of the allegations against him, from a house in Robb Street, Georgetown and took them to Lot 123 Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara, in order to prevent them being questioned by the Police.
He was allowed $100,000 bail in that case and it will be called again on June 21.
