TROY Douglas, who was charged with assaulting his then paramour, television news anchor Petal De Santos, last year May, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday, on a charge of assaulting his present girlfriend.
The defendant, 32, of Lot 16 Howes Street, Charlestown, Georgetown pleaded not guilty to the new offence, particulars of which said, on May 23, in Albert Street, Alberttown, he unlawfully assaulted Latoya Featherstone, so as to cause her actual bodily harm.
Featherstone faced a separate charge that alleged she unlawfully and maliciously wounded Douglas that same day.
Defence Counsel Vic Puran, for Featherstone, a mother of one and a cashier at ADL Supermarket, on Regent Street, also in Georgetown, told the Court Douglas is not the father of her child but had a relationship with her until the Sunday assault.
Puran said the incident occurred at her home after she refused to give Douglas details about a telephone call she received and had to defend herself as he beat her.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, confirmed that a telephone call was at issue because of the usual boyfriend/girlfriend jealousy.
The Prosecutor said Douglas suffered three puncture wounds on his arm and an abrasion to his right shoulder and Featherstone a laceration under her right eye.
Magistrate Robertson released Douglas on $75,000 bail on condition that he stays away from Featherstone’s home and the latter was released on her own recognisance until July 8.
On May 13, 2009, Douglas was in the same Court, accused of an assault on De Santos, who is the mother of his child.
He had, allegedly, dealt her several blows about the body on May 10, Mother’s Day, shortly after an argument between them and was granted $30,000 bail on that occasion.
