SUPERINTENDENT of Examinations, Mrs. Juliet Persico has said that the 25 students, from Hururu Academy, in Region 10 (Upper Demerara/Berbice), who were unable to sit the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) Human and Social Biology test, will be given an opportunity to do so in January 2011, at no additional cost.
The group had gone to the academy on May 7 to write the Human and Social Biology Paper Two but the test papers arrived there very late.
Persico, in an invited comment, said the Ministry of Education Examinations Division sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused the candidates.
She explained that the late delivery was due to adverse weather conditions and the bad condition of the road.
According to her, the papers left the Examinations Division for the Region 10 Education Department, to be dispatched to the relevant centres.
“There were difficulties with the vehicle and that was made worse by the bad state of the road and the rainfall that day,” she said.
Persico added that she is in contact with the Senior Assistant Registrar at CXC, Mrs. Susan Giles, who is advising her on the way forward.
Meanwhile, Region 10 Education Officer, Mr. Claude Johnson told the Guyana Chronicle a report will be prepared, based on the findings of an investigation that is being done by the Regional Administration.
