FOLLOWING a fruitful discussion between officials of France and their Guyanese counterparts yesterday morning, the 16-member delegation led by Ambassador of France to Suriname and Guyana, Richard Barbeyron, met President Bharrat Jagdeo at the Office of the President in Georgetown where kind gestures were extended in the ongoing effort to strengthen bilateral relations. Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee, who was part of the late afternoon visit was presented with a crime analysis software by the French Ambassador, in the presence of Police Attaché of the French Embassy to Suriname and Guyana, Jose Martinez Colet.
The software outlines several crime solving methodologies among which are the strategic methods which will assist the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to be more efficient in apprehending crime suspects, tactical methods which outline ways of crime prevention and administrative methods which employ statistics and reports on crime.
Colet told the Government Information Agency (GINA) in a brief interview that application of the strategic method can enable the security forces to pinpoint areas in the city where crime is most prevalent and establish a plan to tackle the problem.
During the meeting with the President, the visiting team used the occasion to present books on the history of French Guiana from its origins to 1848 and another book from the latter period to present day.
President Jagdeo in return presented copies of the book ‘Twelve Views in the Interior of Guiana’, written by German Explorer Robert Schomburgk who first visited Guyana in 1835.
The book is a summary of all of Schomburgk’s work during his travels around the country. Robert Schomburgk (1804-1865), led two expeditions in the then British Guiana from August 1835 to August 1839, and again from January 1841 to May 1841.
