Police probing shooting of two suspects

POLICE are investigating a shooting incident in which Laumount Leacock, 24, of Betsy Ground, Canje, was wounded in both legs.
A release said it happened about 14:30 h on Monday,
along Canje River and the shooter was another man with whom the victim had an argument over cannabis (marijuana) cultivation.
Leacock has since been admitted a patient under guard at New Amsterdam Hospital, also in Berbice and an arrest warrant issued for him, on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm on October 17, 2008.
Police said Leacock  had been placed on cash bail in that case but did not attend Court and the warrant was recalled, on January 20, 2010, when the Court proceeded with an ex parte trial.
Meanwhile, in a separate report, Police said Rudolph Fitzroy, another suspect, was shot and injured during a confrontation, on Monday, as well.
It occurred about 06:00 h at Brickery, where he suffered injuries to the thighs, inflicted by a licensed firearm holder who confronted him on his premises.
Fitzroy was treated at Diamond Diagnostic Centre, also on East Bank Demerara and sent away but is presently in Police custody.
