Escapee performed indecent act on foreigner

Court told…
KEVIN Harry, 21, of Lot 41 Stanleytown Scheme, New Amsterdam, Berbice was yesterday remanded to prison on charges of escaping from lawful custody and performing an indecent act.

Before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, he pleaded not guilty committing both.
Particulars of the  offences said, last April 4, at Tabatinga, Rupununi, the defendant committed the indecent act with intent to offend Alexandra Stratigos and escaped from Police custody pending prosecution.
Harry told the Court that the Police took $100,000 from him to settle the matter and removed his handcuffs, allowing him to go.
But Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant, an Australian national, was at the Lethem Rodeo in the vicinity of the car park when Harry put a knife at her throat and rode away with her on a bicycle.
The Prosecutor said Harry carried the woman to his home and ordered her to take off her clothes but, when she informed him she was in her menstrual cycle, he commanded her to perform oral sex.
Telford said when Harry was arrested and being transported to a Police station, he jumped out of the vehicle but was recaptured.
The case has been transferred to Lethem Court, also in Rupununi, for June 1.
