Guyanese Pollard returns to North East Stars for last hurrah

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – Guyanese international Charles Pollard has signed for North East Stars, just a week after quitting Joe Public because of insecurity over playing time. The veteran 36-year-old defender had joined Joe Public in January but with the club making several younger defensive acquisitions, he was not guaranteed of the playing time he wanted in the Trinidad and Tobago Pro League which kicked off Thursday.
His signing marks a return to the club he once captained when they last won the league six years ago. Pollard said recently this would be his last pro season.
“I enjoyed my time at Joe Public. They are a big club and will always do well,” Pollard said. “However, my heart belongs to North East Stars, where I captained their last title winning team.”
Pollard will join Trinidad and Tobago international Brent Sancho in the centre of defence in a squad that also includes the experienced Arnold Dwarika and Jamaican Kimarley McDonald.
North East Stars have also been boosted by the Guyanese duo of Carey Harris and Randolph Jerome who have re-signed for the club.
Director of Football, Kevin Jeffrey said the club was pleased with what they had been able to accomplish in pulling a squad together.
“When you consider that in February we only had one player signed – Brent Sancho. We can now say that North East Stars has assembled a formidable squad which will certainly complement and bring excitement to this season’s Pro League,” Jeffrey said.
San Juan Jabloteh and W Connection raised the curtain on the new season last night at the Hasely Crawford Stadium while North East Stars open their campaign today against FC South End at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium.
