THE body of mentally challenged Ramesh Singh, 58, formerly of Strand Road, was found floating in a trench within the compound of the National Psychiatric Hospital, also in New Amsterdam, Berbice, about 08:20 h yesterday morning. A female patient at the same institution made the discovery of the nude man, with no visible marks of violence, who was taken to New Amsterdam Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A post mortem examination is to be performed on his remains Monday.
Singh had been an in-patient at the mental institution for 16 years and was last seen alive at 16:00 h on Thurday.
Reports said he was in the habit of taking daily baths in the shallow trench North of the female chalet.
