Prison officer charged with taking in prohibited items

PRISON officer David Wilson, attached to the Camp Street, Georgetown jail, has been charged with taking prohibited articles into the penitentiary.
The 39-year-old warder, of Lot 105 Section ‘C’, Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson on Tuesday and pleaded not guilty.

It is alleged that, on February 20 last, he took two cellular phones, eight packets of cigarettes, 18 single cigarettes and a lighter into the prison.
His lawyer, Mr. Patrice Henry told the Court the matter surfaced two months ago and Wilson has been reporting to the Police ever since.
Defence Counsel claimed the items were in Wilson’s personal locker, contrary to the Police report that they were found in his pockets.
Wilson was granted $30,000 bail and the case was put off to June 1
