I am very disappointed and confused about the recent article which was published in the Stabroek News on Saturday 17, headlined “Execution-style murders expose fragility of national security” attributed to PNCR Member of Parliament Clarissa Riehl. Riehl talked about the lack of resources for the Guyana Police Force and accused the government of incompetence on several issues. It is very unfortunate that an intelligent and educated individual like Ms. Riehl does not know better than to attempt to influence the mind of the public with her baseless information.
It would be even more unfortunate if we allow ourselves to be consumed by the same old political lies and tactics by the PNCR to finger the Jagdeo administration as being linked to criminal elements.
I am glad that Riehl has raised these issues which give the government and patriotic Guyanese the opportunity to respond to her rootless allegations.
To begin with, the Burnham era can never be compared to the Jagdeo administration because during those days from 1964 to 1991, this country was in complete oppression.
As Guyanese let’s take a minute of our time to reflect and compare the PPP/C to PNC administration. Since the PPP/C got into government, they have brought freedom to this country, from bondage and captivity of the PNC and as a patriotic Guyanese, one who has been supporting the Government with its plans and programmes for the betterment of country, I am very upset to see that Ms. Riehl is trying to paint the Jagdeo administration with the same brush as the PNC.
On another point, she talks about the inadequate funds and resources available to the country’s security sector, more specifically the Guyana Police Force. As a Parliamentarian, Ms. Riehl has really gone out of her mind because never in the history of this country has the armed forces gotten so much resources at its disposal like today.
After carefully reviewing Ms. Riehl’s allegations I can only conclude that she was either asleep or somewhere else during the debates in Parliament when the very same PNCR would kick against the resources being allocated for the Guyana Police Force on a yearly basis by the government.
I have heard the same script she read some months ago outlining some of the same old tasteless allegations against the government to the starving media.
It is time to wake up Ms. Riehl, government has spent endless resources on all sectors and the security sector is no exception.
Security Sector has come a long way under this administration
