New trial began at Demerara Assizes yesterday
THE Buxton murder trial involving accused Squince Mc Lennon, called ‘Killer’ and Trian Sumner, called ‘Tatie’ for the murder of Odingo Bryan at Buxton, 2004, which was aborted on Tuesday, started again yesterday, before Justice Roxanne George and a mixed jury.
State Prosecutor Mrs. Judith Gildharie-Mursalin assured the jury that she would lead evidence to show that Odingo Bryan was attacked and killed at Buxton, East Coast Demerara, by gunmen including the accused Squince Mc Lennon, called ‘Killer’ and Trian Sumner.
Attorney-at-Law, Mr. Basil Williams, is defending.
The first witness called by the Prosecution was Mr. Errol Adams called ‘Dynamite’ who once lived at Buxton, East Coast Demerara. He now lives at Dartmouth, Essequibo.
According to him on January 9, 2004, in company with Odingo Bryan he visited Buxton to do business and to see some of his relatives who had come from abroad.
Witness said that he was in a barber shop not far from the Buxton Side Line Dam, where he met his relatives. He introduced them to his friend Odingo Bryan.
Whilst there five men armed with guns, including the accused, turned up, grabbed them , pushed him out of the shop telling him that he Adams was a Phantom and that the boss had wanted him.
Witness said that he told the accused Mc Lennon who was hunching him with the gun while pushing him out of the shop that “I am not a phantom and I am not going anyway.
Witness said that he knew the five men by their names and he knew them for a long time.
Continuing Adams said that during the attack on him and Odingo Bryan, he managed to escape. Bryan was later found dead in a pool of blood.
Witness said that he had reported the matter to Vigilance Police Station and Cove & John Police Station.
Under cross-examination witness in answer to Mr. Basil Williams said that he could neither read nor write but could sign his name.
Witness who was describing the accused by their names before the judge and jury denied that he was referring to them as Number one and Number 2 accused at the preliminary hearing before the Magistrate who is now a judge of the High Court. The witness denied and the lawyer is seeking to have the depositions tendered as an exhibit in the case.
The trial continues today.
