The police are investigating an assault that occurred on Sunday evening at a wedding reception at Huntley, Mahaicony, on the East Coast Demerara. According to a police release, acting on information received, they stopped motor car PFF 2396 with three men inside at the Mahaicony bridge. The men were ordered out of the vehicle and were told of the alleged offence, whereupon the men pushed the two ranks aside and drove away.
The three men were subsequently seen by police ranks at De Kinderen, Mahaicony, where they stopped because of a puncture.
As the ranks approached, one of the men ran away, and while attempting to arrest the other two, one of them attacked the police with a knife. This led to the police shooting him in his left thigh.
The injured man has been identified as Vidyanand Ramrattan, 25, of Lowlands, East Coast Demerara.
He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he is receiving medical treatment, while the other is in police custody.
