NCN Berbice Transmission Operator Mukeshwar Seelall, succumbed to multiple injuries following a motor accident on the Rose Hall, East Canje road on Sunday evening. Seelall was driving his motorcycle en route to work at the NCN Transmission site in New Amsterdam when a motor pickup collided with him shortly after 22:00hrs.
According to an eyewitness, following the collision, the occupants of the pick up fled the scene, leaving the vehicle submerged in a nearby trench. Residents, who rushed to the scene on hearing the impact, told this newspaper that a quantity of alcoholic beverages were removed from the damaged vehicle.
Records at the Police Traffic Department revealed that the owner of the vehicle resides at Rosignol, West Bank Berbice.
Meanwhile, the pillion rider, Latchman Singh, of Canefield Village, was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, in a critical condition.
According to NCN Berbice Operations Station Coordinator, Fiazal Jafarally , he was in disbelief and in shock on receiving the news of his staffer’s demise at 22:30hrs on Sunday evening
‘I have never seen him as an employee, but as a friend, a brother .He displayed a high degree of competence, was reliable and would resume duty on the shortest possible notice’, recounted Jafarally when contacted by this newspaper.
‘He was a worker that any employer would have longed for. Seelall was employed at the communications entity for three and a half years, and was honored with the Worker of the Year award in 2009.
Meanwhile, NCN CEO Mohammed Sattaur, along with other staff members, visited their late colleague’s parents, Gito and Roho Seelall , and his wife, Mandy, at their Gangaram Village residence, where they expressed sympathy and offered assistance .
A wake will be held at the transmission site in New Amsterdam this evening, and the funeral will take place tomorrow.
