THE majority of Hindu organisations including Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha; Guyana Pandits’ Council; Central Arya Samaj; Hare Krishna ISKCON Movement; Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha; and Guyana Maha Kali All Religious Organisation in Guyana are demanding a thorough investigation into the death of Sangeeta Persaud. It is alleged that Sangeeta was possessed by what was called a “Navrat demon;” the Hindu bodies reject this accusation and deem it ridiculous and contemptible to the Hindus. The Hindu bodies like any other religious group have mutual respect towards each other and have demonstrated it on all occasions. We will continue to work for greater religious harmony amongst all Guyanese.
These organizations feel this issue is of tremendous gravity and as such this investigation is a matter of great urgency. Hindus believe in medical treatment and urge the community not to descend to the level of any form of superstition. This could be harmful. Sangeeta should get justice. We are of the view that justice should be done in this matter and any such matter and we ought not to allow religious consideration to prejudice our thinking in seeking to arrive at rational conclusions.
“We have been in dialogue on this matter to try to ascertain what the truth is and we trust that the investigation will reveal this,” a release said
