RHTYSC makes donation to Central Boxing gym

BOXING became the latest sport in Berbice to benefit from the assistance of Guyana’s leading youth and sports club, the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) with the handing over  of  $300 000 worth of items to the Central Boxing Gym which is located in the Central Police Station compound in New Amsterdam.
The items donated included boxing gloves, head guards, protective seed
guards, ring ropes, ring corner cushions, educational and hygiene kits, trophy, ringside electric clock and training uniform among others and were presented by the Pepsi Under-19, Gizmos and Gadgets Under-23, Farfan and Mendes Under-15, Metro Female and Bakewell Under-17 cricket teams .
The RHYYSC also donated a set of items for the club to do a community project involving young mothers as part of a major public relations drive.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster who spearheaded the donation to the boxing gym, stated that the RHTYSC was totally committed to the development of all sports in Berbice and so far, the Club has assisted over 50 groups with over $2M in gear for several sports including basketball, chess, volleyball, table tennis, cricket and football but no boxing equipment, in 2010.
Boxing, the national sports personality for 2009 stated, is the only sport that has won international titles for Guyana and attracted youths mainly from less fortunate families.
The  gear were in storage at the Club’s office for over five years after the club closed down its own boxing gym and Foster urged the executives of the Central Boxing Gym to take proper care of the items and to make sure that they are used for the intended purpose.
He challenged the gym to work hard to produce national champions in the near future for Berbice and at the same time to make sure that all the boxers make education the key goal in their lives.
CEO of the boxing gym and former national boxing champion, Jeff Roberts, expressed his profound gratitude to the club for its assistance and praised Foster for his leadership of the RHTYSC.
Roberts stated that he wanted to approach the club for assistance but he was contacted first by the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club and according to Roberts, the Central Boxing Gym was determined to become the best in Guyana and a strong emphasis would be placed on hard work and discipline.
President of the Gym, Abid Ali, praised the Club for its continued programme of assisting others to fulfil their dreams and expressed thanks to Mr Foster for spending over two hours with the gym executives and sharing ideas on how to become a successful organisation.
Neil Pike and Surendra Kissoonlall of the Pepsi Under-19 Team and Ms Shemaine Campbell of the metro Female Team handed over the donation and urged the members of the gym to always “Say no to Drugs, and Yes to Education”.
