CHILDREN are victims of abuse everyday in Guyana and around the world. Abuse exists in all parts of society in its various forms; physical, emotional and sexual. The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha will be launching its campaign ‘Voices Against Child Abuse’ today with a fund-raising evening of music, dance and dinner at the International Conference Centre. Ten outstanding young singers from around the country will lend their voices in song and against child abuse in the drive to create awareness and garner support for victims of abuse. Dances will be done by Dharmic Nritya Sang. The concert begins at 7:00pm and will be followed by a sumptuous dinner.
The Sabha’s programme- Voices Against Child Abuse, will involve advocacy, training of counselors, identification and referral of cases, support for victims of abuse and help in rehabilitation efforts when dealing with families affected by abuse. The Sabha is proposing to construct a shelter or half-way home for abused children in Berbice. The shelter will have the capacity to house 30 children and will be open to all abused children. To this end the Sabha has embarked on a fund-raising drive for the construction, management and running of the shelter. To achieve this Dharmic Sabha will also be collaborating with Government, NGOs, and other stakeholders. We welcome public support and contribution
Emerging Voices is the first of a series of events in the campaign. Tickets cost $4,000.00 and all proceeds will go towards the Child Abuse Programme and Shelter for Abused Children. The Sabha is urging the public to support a worthy cause and help in the fight against abuse. Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha release)
