Caribbean Climate Change Centre officials meet President Jagdeo

– discuss adaptation projects
TWO experts in the field of climate change in the Caribbean, Kenrick Leslie, head of the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) and Science Advisor Dr. Ulric (Neville) Trotz, met President Bharrat Jagdeo at State House yesterday  to discuss specific projects which can benefit Guyana in its climate change adaptation efforts.
Head of the Office of Climate Change at the Office of the President, Shyam Nokta was also in the meeting which focused on renewable energy and strengthening data gathering on climate and weather.
The CCCCC coordinates the Caribbean region’s response to climate change and is the key agency for information on climate change issues and on the region’s response to managing and adapting to climate change in the Caribbean.
The CCCCC provides regional climate change data, climate change-related policy advice and guidelines to CARICOM Member States through the CARICOM Secretariat.
In this role, the Centre is recognised by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and other international agencies as the focal point for climate change issues in the Caribbean.  It has also been recognised by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) as a Centre of Excellence.
