THE National Parks Commission has stated that a nominal fee will be charged for the parking of vehicles, inclusive of motorcycles, in the Botanical gardens on Easter Monday (tomorrow).
Monies collected will be used to offset expenses incurred in cleaning the gardens of the usually heavy garbage and debris left in the aftermath of picnicking activities associated with Easter Monday in Georgetown, the agency stated in a press release.
In keeping with the initiative to maintain a clean environment, the Commission will be distributing garbage bags to groups utilizing the Park. In addition, the bags will be uplifted periodically during the day to ease the clean up exercise.
The release also noted that patrons will enter the gardens from the western main gate on Vlissengen Road and will exit from the eastern gate.
In addition, similar fees will be charged at the National Park and patrons entering the compound will do so through the Carifesta Avenue gate and will exit by the Albert Street gate.
The release also stated that admission to the Joe Vieira Park will be free between 06.00 hrs and 18.00 hrs. Vending of beverages is strictly prohibited except by the duly authorised franchisee.
