Late President Janet Jagan commemorated at special service

In Region Two…
LATE President, Mrs. Janet Jagan was remembered at a special commemorative service last Sunday in Cheddi Jagan Biodiversity Park, Lima Sands, Essequibo Coast.
One year after she passed away, People’s Progressive Party (PPP) former Parliamentarian, Mr. Isahack Basir,
who chaired the proceedings, said her life and work will always be in memory.
His wife, Mrs. Sabra Basir paid glowing tribute to the wife of dead President, Dr. Cheddi Jagan and, formerly President of the Women’s Progressive Organisation (WPO).
She said Essequibo was the bedrock of Janet Jagan’s politics because she won that constituency admirably in 1953 and 1957 general elections.
Another speaker, former Vice-Chairman of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Heeralall Mohan identified seven points of development which Mrs. Jagan promoted in Essequibo.
He said two of which were the Tapakuma Project and the commissioning of the m.v. Malali in 1961.
Current member of Region Two Regional Democratic Council (RDC), Mr. Feruese Basir, who is also a dentist, said Mrs. Jagan was the architect of promoting international women’s day in Guyana and fighting for women rights.
