Prior to the distribution of awards, gifts and prizes, Foster outlined the achievements of the club which, apart from celebrating its 20th year in existence this year, is also un-arguably the most vibrant sports club in Guyana.
Five first class players, 16 junior national players including two captains, 46 for Berbice at all levels, one West Indies limited overs player and three female national players are all products of the club over the past 20 years.
Added to the abovementioned, the club has also won 30 Berbice titles at all levels and two national titles while being named the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) Club-of-the-Year on three different occasions and is presently the national female club champions.
Over 14 cricket academies, 150 television programmes, 19 award ceremonies, six educational summer camps, over 800 feeding programmes, 20 000 students being assisted with educational materials and the printing of 13 magazines and booklets can be added to the portfolio of RHTYSC.
The club has also distributed $40M in clothing and footwear, $35M in educational and hygienic kits, $20M in sports equipment and a further $15M in food supplies to clubs and the less fortunate, while the period January 2009 to March 2010 has been without doubt the most successful period in the history of the club despite the economic situation facing the country.
The club also won the Berbice Under-15, 17, 19, 23 and female titles while the senior team took home the ABS 40 overs-a-side as well as the GCB/Neal and Massy Berbice zone first division title to their Area ‘H’ base which was restored in 1996 at a cost of $15M, having first refurbished the Lower Corentyne Secondary School at a cost of G$4M in 1991.
Several competitions were also hosted by the RHTYSC, including the Busta Champion of Champions, Kool Kidz 20/20 and the Gilgeous Pawn Shop Under-19 tournaments, while at the recent Berbice Cricket Board of Control (BCBC) award ceremony, they carted off six awards which went along with their six out of nine major awards won at the GCB’s award ceremony last year.
The Western Union Junior Ambassador Programme, the first of its kind in Guyana was launched last year with three young cricketers receiving a total of $200 000 worth of items with two of them benefiting from the Basil Butcher Trust Fund (BBTF).
Like his brother and president of both the RHTYSC and the BCB Keith Foster, Hilbert Foster who was also named the National Sports Commission Sports Personality-of-the-Year, became the first individual from a club to ever receive such an award and said that the dream continues as they strive to get better and better each year.
