MARK Singh, charged with assaulting his reputed wife, was yesterday refused bail when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
The 36-year-old defendant, of Lot 46 Regent Street, Bourda, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to two charges, one of which said, on March 26, in Regent Street, he unlawfully and maliciously assaulted Sujata Persaud.
Particulars of the other charge said, the same day, he made use of threatening language to Persaud, causing a breach of the peace.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said Singh was previously placed on a bond and it is not the first time he hit Persaud.
The virtual complainant said Singh went home intoxicated that day and, when she locked him out, he jumped through a window and assaulted her as she was looking after their children.
Singh, in turn, alleged that Persaud kicked him in his back and he retaliated by slapping her.
The magistrate ordered a probation report into the case and postponed it to April 15.
