Bonded confessed thief ordered to clean Court compound

MOHAN Ramkissoon, who pleaded guilty to simple larceny yesterday, will have to clean in and around the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court compound for four days.
The 39-year-old man, with no fixed place of abode, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson and admitted that, on March 25, in Alexander Village, Georgetown, he stole two cases of empty bottles, valued $10,000, belonging to Saraswatti Hamid.

The thief told the Court that he is employed by Hamid as a labourer at her shop and, that day, she forgot the bottles outside the business place and he carried them away.
He confessed that his practice is that, if anyone lapses with their property, he could collect it and, that day, he was trying to make a “little hustle” but was caught.
Ramkissoon declared that a demon tempted him, causing him to steal from the virtual complainant who, often, feeds him.
He disclosed that, this was not the first time he committed such an offence and came out of prison last year after stealing some money.
But Ramkissoon promised the magistrate that, if she is lenient with him, he would make sure that she does not see his face in Court again, as he would change by the time he is released from prison.
In addition to signing a two-year bond to keep the peace, he was ordered to attend Court every day and do the cleaning until Thursday.
