– Suspected killer of daughter still at large
LATA Inderdeo, called Cheryl, is thanking God for sparing her life from a brutal attack allegedly perpetrated by her son-in- law, Rooplall Boodhoo, called Kelly.
While there are bandages over various parts of her body, her condition has been described as stable by medical authorities.
However, she is unaware that her daughter, Liloutie Seeram alias Pinky, is dead. The woman presumes that her child is on a visit to Georgetown.
During a visit to the New Amsterdam Hospital yesterday afternoon, Cheryl, as she is fondly called, was surrounded by members of her church. She joined them in the numerous choruses, praising Jesus for his goodness.
Recalling the night of the attack, she said she was awakened by an argument between her daughter and her son-in-law.
Inderdeo said, ‘Kelly came home drunk, and they were quarreling’.
‘I then heard my daughter scream out, and when I rushed over to the couple’s bedroom, I saw Kelly armed with a cutlass chopping me daughter .I went between them, attempting to protect my daughter. He lashed me on my head, then chopped my right arm. I ran to the door, attempting to open it. He then chopped me on my hand. I ran to a neighbor, and was later brought to the hospital’.
Meanwhile, the suspect still remains in hiding, as police continue their investigation.
On Saturday morning Liloutie Seeram alias Pinky, age 31 years, succumbed to multiple injuries about her body following a chopping incident at their home at Edinburgh New Housing Scheme, about four miles south of the New Amsterdam Township.
According to Ramnarine Seeram, he last spoke to his granddaughter shortly after 20:00hrs on Friday evening when she telephoned to find out how he was doing.
At the time, the distraught man was viewing a religious programme on a local television station.
However, after retiring to bed, he was awakened by a relative of the suspect who requested that he visit the New Amsterdam Hospital mortuary to identify his granddaughter‘s body.
Seeram related that he did not believe the story at first, but changed his mind when a member of his granddaughter’s church approached him crying uncontrollably.
According to the grandfather, his relative endured a violent relationship, and while the couple lived with him, there was constant torment.
At the couple’s home, blood stains were seen from their bedroom to the front of the yard.
The suspect’s sister- in-law, who gave her name only as Angalie , said around 02:00hrs, her husband returned home breathless, saying, ‘Kelly [ his brother ]chop up Pinky, and he gone with a rope and a cutlass saying he gon hang he self.’
Angalie, who lives with her husband a street away from the murder scene, told this newspaper that on arrival at the scene, she saw the badly wounded, bleeding woman in a ‘crumpled ‘position in a corner of her bedroom.
‘She was alive. Her eyes were slightly opened and she was breathing softly.’
Meanwhile a neighbour, who spoke on condition of anonymity, and lives immediately behind the couple’s home, recalled hearing shouts shortly after 01:30hours , but dismissed these, as it was a regular feature between the two.
She said shortly after the screams, the suspect was observed pacing the front stairs ‘up and down’.
During that period I heard his brother say, ‘Oh God Kelly look, what you do. Afterwards, a car entered their driveway and I observed somebody being lifted into the vehicle.’
The neighbour said she learnt of the seriousness of the offence later when she learnt that, ‘Pinky was dead and Kelly, missing’.
The incident has left the closely knit community in shock.
The couple has two children, Nicholas , 10 , who is preparing to write the National Grade Six Examination, and Nerissa, 13 , a second form student at the Berbice High School.
