DEOCHAN Phillips, 41, was sentenced to one year imprisonment, on Thursday, for escaping from lawful custody. The prisoner (no address given) appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson and pleaded guilty to the charge.
He admitted that, on March 23, he escaped from Kitty Police Station, while being detained on a criminal charge of break and enter and larceny.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, told the Court the convict had been arrested for an alleged burglary and was put in the lock-up pending interrogation but was later discovered missing.
The Prosecutor said Phillips was recaptured in a yard on the Kitty railway embankment.
However, the escapee claimed that a Police Sergeant had released him but he was held again two days after and he walked out of the open room in which he was put to sit.
