Royals recover to beat Bulls, Raiders stop Ballers

LABA Under-21 championship …
RETRIEVE Raiders and Victory Valley Royals won their respective group matches on Wednesday night when the Linden Amateur Basketball Association’s Under-21 championship continued at the Mackenzie Sports club hard court.
In the first game Raiders handed South Star New Ballers a 44-33 loss, as Jeffrey La Rose led them with 13 points after  taking the lead at halftime, 19-14, with Stravin Ettienne  being the best player for Ballers with 13 points.
In the other game the Royals began their quest with 57-50  win over Glands Trucking Service Bulls who were up by ten points (28-18) at the break, but failed in take charge of the second period where they were outscored, 39-22. Chris Williams was in good scoring touch netting 22 points as teammate Marvin Russell had 20 while for the Bulls Michael Turner netted 20 and Loriette Sampson added 11.
The Royals’ come-from-behind win came after the Bulls had a win in their opening game against Block 22 Flames and are now with one win and one loss in Group B where Royals started with this win over them.
Group A contestants Raiders now have a win and a loss. They lost their first game against Kashif and Shanghai Kings.
Today, Block 22 Flames will once again be in action against Wismar Pistons in the first game at 19.00 h while the second is between Kings and Amelia’s Ward Jets at 21:00 h.
Tomorrow Royals will face Block 22  Flames in the opening game and the second will see Raiders take on Amelia’s Ward Jets. (Joe Chapman)
